Peaches and cream? Within a carbonated beverage? It is effective.

The "dirty soda" fad is thriving, now featuring a particularly summery variation.
KFC stated on Thursday that Peaches & Cream Mountain Dew will be available at its locations. Sweet Lightning Mountain Dew, a soda exclusive to KFC that debuted in 2019, is receiving a contemporary enhancement with the incorporation of sweet vanilla cream. The new Mountain Dew Sweet Lightning Peaches and Cream beverage resembles a sweet honey creamsicle, devoid of the sticky mess associated with melting.
The chain announced, “Embracing the viral dirty soda trend favored by Gen Z and Millennials, this audacious new flavor will be available in restaurants beginning June 9.” “Customers may enhance each sip by incorporating a vanilla cream swirl.”
What what constitutes a filthy soda? Although there is no definitive formula for this unconventional combination, the majority of beverages comprise a carbonated soft drink, cream, and an assortment of syrups. Despite its unusual appeal, Mountain Dew is not the inaugural brand to combine carbonated soda with coffee creamer.
Earlier this year, Taco Bell, a competitor in the Tex-Mex market, launched the Dirty Mountain Dew Baja Blast by incorporating a hint of vanilla cream into its distinctive drink. KFC and Taco Bell are subsidiaries of Yum! Brands, a Kentucky-based corporation that controls several of America's most prominent fast-food restaurants, offering insight into the industry's overarching strategy.
Recently, pizza business Papa John’s attracted attention with its highly controversial Cini Dirty Soda. This innovative variation on the trend amalgamates pepperoncini flavor, sweet cream, and acidic citrus in a single effervescent beverage.
The Sweet Lightning Peaches and Cream launch is available for a limited duration, contingent on supply, as indicated by the KFC team, with costs differing by location. KFC suggests enhancing the zesty experience by transforming it into a meal with the Fill Ups meal offers.
Throughout the country, small specialty stores have commenced operations, featuring free-flowing soda fountains to capitalize on the intrigue surrounding the filthy soda phenomenon. Numerous individuals identify the Utah-based chain Swig as the progenitor of this movement, particularly after the brand's appearance in Hulu's acclaimed series Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. CoolSips, a contemporary interpretation of the traditional soda shop, has three establishments in Manhattan catering to the East Coast clientele.
On certain days, all one yearns for is the comforting nostalgia of a drive-thru order. KFC's invigorating soda and the rich Baja Blast indicate that the allure of dirty soda is intact.
