Ottolenghi now dominates grocery shelves with its spice blends and sauces, and is now venturing into the freezer department with the introduction of a new line of ice cream.

Ottolenghi has introduced a line of ice cream.
Debuting exclusively at Waitrose today, 4 August 2025, the collection features three flavors, each embodying a distinct Ottolenghi essence. Madagascan Vanilla & Miso Salted Caramel, characterized by a subtle savoriness with an umami nuance; nutty Roasted Pistachio & Sour Cherry Swirl, aligning with a prominent contemporary trend; and aromatic, delicately spiced Coffee & Cardamom. Crafted from West Country cream, they are sure to be favored for outdoor dining this summer.
“Regarding desserts, I frequently derive greater satisfaction from assembling rather than preparing from scratch,” states Yotam Ottolenghi, the brand's namesake founder. When all are content and mildly inebriated, accessing the freezer appears to be a rational decision. We have crafted our own ice cream from West Country cream and included combinations that elicit joy. Furthermore, they have been a lifesaver following my preparation of an extensive summer banquet.
Katie Knight, Ice Cream Buyer at Waitrose, stated, "We are delighted to announce the exclusive launch of Ottolenghi's new ice cream range, offering our culinary enthusiasts an unmatched taste experience." This new ice cream line epitomizes Yotam's essence — remarkable, audacious flavors, intriguing ingredients, and exceptional quality.
The introduction appears exceptionally opportune, as ice cream is projected to be one of the most prominent food trends of 2025. This summer, soft serve remains a seasonal favorite, with a series of trendy pop-ups emerging in London, including East London baker Lily Vanilli’s gelato bar and Zapote’s taco ice cream parlor. Simultaneously on TikTok, an unexpected combination has gained viral popularity: wine and ice cream, largely influenced by the new Islington venue The Dreamery, a favored haunt among celebs.
According to recent data from Unilever, ice cream has gained significant appeal in retail, with sales of Magnum, Ben & Jerry’s, and Cornetto increasing by 5.9 percent in the first half of 2025. Aldi has announced unprecedented ice cream sales this summer, with a quarter of a million ice creams sold each hour on numerous days in July, representing a 100 percent increase compared to the same week in 2024. The several heatwaves experienced in the UK this year are undoubtedly a significant factor.
Ottolenghi initially introduced a range of culinary products in collaboration with Waitrose in 2024. The initial assortment featured products such as Rose & Lemon Harissa, Shawarma Marinade, and Miso Pesto, all intended to facilitate the preparation of Ottolenghi-style cuisine. A wide array of products is also available for purchase on the Ottolenghi website, including hampers, pantry items, and wine.
The Ottolenghi narrative commenced in 2002, when Yotam inaugurated his inaugural deli in Notting Hill, in collaboration with co-founders Noam Bar and Sami Tamimi. News rapidly disseminated over his delectable cuisine, leading to the establishment of more cafes and restaurants throughout London. Currently, there are two flagship restaurants: Nopi in Soho and Rovi in Fitzrovia, in addition to other delis located in Chelsea, Hampstead, and Richmond.
In 2018, Yotam released his inaugural cookbook, Simple, which propelled the chef and his expanding brand to prominence. Suddenly, items like as harissa, preserved lemon, and pomegranate molasses were rapidly depleting from the shelves. The Ottolenghi impact was permeating the nation, fostering a novel culinary style centered on Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors, frequently presented in a communal format. Subsequently, two additional cookbooks have been released under the Ottolenghi brand, titled Flavour and Comfort.
