Ingredients

Salad

  • Prewashed mixed salad greens are available in the grocery store's produce section. I appreciate the diverse textures and flavors that enhance this pear salad recipe. Arugula is also really effective.

  • Red or Green Pear — Red and green pears are generally Anjou or Bartlett varieties, with the appropriate texture for this salad. Bosc pears are excessively soft and juicy for the salad; thus, I do not recommend them.

  • Honey Goat cheese infused with a hint of honey is typically located alongside regular goat cheese in most supermarket stores. It possesses a slight sweetness in comparison to the unadulterated version. You may, of course, utilize plain goat cheese if you want.

  • Shallot - A member of the onion family, shallots possess a mild flavor; when thinly sliced, they impart a subtle zest and sharpness to the salad. Red onion serves as a suitable substitute in the absence of shallots.

  • Walnuts contribute texture and taste to the salad and may be replaced with preferred nuts such as pecans, almonds, pine nuts, or pistachios.

Honey Tarragon Dressing

Olive Oil - The foundation of the salad dressing, the olive oil is exceptional. Avocado oil can be utilized for the dressing; however, I prefer extra virgin olive oil for a more robust flavor.

White wine vinegar possesses a subtler acidity compared to standard white vinegar and exhibits a slight sweetness. Red wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar can be used as substitutes in an emergency.

Honey not only sweetens and balances the dressing but also serves as the emulsifier that ensures its stability. The oil and vinegar will not separate after being combined with the honey. Maple syrup may also be utilized.

Fresh tarragon is typically available in plastic containers in the produce department of supermarket stores; however, it can be substituted with 1 teaspoon of dried tarragon. It possesses a nuanced anise or licorice flavor that is herbal. It enhances the salad significantly!

Salt and black pepper – Incorporate a small amount, assess the flavor, and adjust according to your preferences.

How to Make

This exquisite, refined salad is remarkably simple to prepare. It can be prepared in about 15 minutes and serves as the finest substantial accompaniment. Instructions for preparing a Pear Goat Cheese Salad:

  • Incorporate the greens into the bowls, then garnish with pear slices, shallots, goat cheese, and walnuts.

  • Consolidate the dressing components in a salad dressing shaker, a mason jar, or a small dish and thoroughly combine.

  • Apply the dressing over the salads and serve!

Variations of Pear Salad

  • Utilize an Alternative Dressing – The honey tarragon dressing was really delectable; nevertheless, you may conserve time by opting for a commercially available dressing or experimenting with my Easy Classic Lemon Vinaigrette or Balsamic Vinaigrette Recipe.

  • Substituting Apples for Pears – Do you dislike the texture or taste of pears? Utilize thinly sliced apples instead. I recommend gala, honey crisp, or pink lady apples as effective substitutes.

  • Replace the Goat Cheese — Surprisingly, blue cheese or gorgonzola pairs exceptionally well with pears and is frequently served alongside them. Feta cheese may be utilized as a substitute for goat cheese.

  • Experiment with Alternative Greens - While arugula is typically included in mixed greens, its distinctive spicy and peppery flavor would enhance a salad if utilized exclusively instead of the mixed greens. One may also utilize baby spinach or bibb lettuce.

  • Incorporate Additional Protein - You may augment the salad with extra protein to transform it into a substantial dinner. Rotisserie chicken or sliced turkey is excellent in this dish!
