Instagram's innovative AI-driven dashboard enables Reels users to analyse, modify, and share the preferences influencing their customised feed.

Instagram is unveiling its Reels algorithm with a new AI-driven tool named “Your Algorithm,” which provides users with insight into the subjects influencing their recommendations and the ability to modify them instantaneously. The control is located behind a new icon in the upper-right corner of Reels, displaying an AI-generated summary such as “Recently, you have shown interest in creativity, sports hype, fitness motivation, and skateboarding,” along with a comprehensive list of topics that can be boosted, muted, or replaced.
Meta asserts that the function is integral of a comprehensive initiative aimed at providing users with more significant control over their Instagram experience, beginning with Reels, by employing AI to let individuals to observe and customise the interests influencing their feed. Users may input very specific preferences, rather than merely broad categories, and disseminate their algorithmic snapshot to Stories, transforming their Reels taste profile into a social display akin to Spotify Wrapped.
The launch commences in the United States in English, with intentions to grow internationally and extend Your Algorithm beyond Reels into Explore and other platforms, thereby increasing user control over Instagram’s recommendation engine.
The action occurs as authorities and governments target "predatory algorithms," while TikTok's Manage Topics feature standardises customisable streams, compelling Instagram to prioritise openness over mere addiction. This is a subtle yet significant transformation for creators and brands: fans can now actively curate their Reels to focus on certain niches such as runway archive footage, sneaker customisations, or underground club events, enhancing the discovery of scenes characterised by their specificity.
