Beyoncé is quite open regarding her hair journey. A recent video posted on Cécred’s official Instagram account features the singer discussing the “little ritual” she and her father practiced while caring for her hair throughout her childhood, and for the first time, she discloses that she has scalp psoriasis.

“One of my most cherished recollections from childhood is my father applying my medication to my scalp,” she states. “I have a severely dry scalp due to psoriasis, a condition I have contended with since childhood.”

Scalp psoriasis is a disorder characterized by the formation of thick, scaly plaques on and around the scalp, according to the Cleveland Clinic. This frequently results in pruritus and desquamation; although a definitive solution is unavailable, it is typically manageable with over-the-counter formulations including components like as salicylic acid and zinc pyrithione, which are prevalent in anti-dandruff shampoos.

Beyoncé aligns with a multitude of celebrities who have candidly disclosed their individual relationships with beauty in the past month. Recently, Kylie Jenner disclosed the precise details of her breast augmentation in a viral TikTok comment; the only previous reference to her procedure was in a 2023 episode of The Kardashians. This prompted several other celebrities, including Kristin Cavallari, Shark Tank's Barbara Corcoran, and So You Think You Can Dance's Allison Holker, to openly discuss their own cosmetic treatments and procedures.

Although I typically maintain that it is not a celebrity's responsibility to alleviate our beauty insecurities, I can nonetheless recognize the refreshing reality that many of these individuals grapple with similar issues and share comparable sentiments regarding their hair, skin, and bodies, akin to those of us who are not as affluent or renowned. Beyoncé has epitomized perfectionism for years; not even a two-hour stadium performance has left a hair out of place, earning her widespread acclaim. Her disclosure prompted other commenters to share their testimonials regarding their experiences with scalp psoriasis and the efficacy of Cécred's products in managing the condition.

"I suffer from scalp psoriasis, and @cecred has significantly aided me," one individual stated.

"I did not anticipate experiencing dry scalp issues alongside Beyoncé," remarked another individual. "I can assert that my scalp and hair health have significantly improved since utilizing Cécred."

Beyoncé rarely shares personal details with her fans, which is understandable; however, her recent disclosure was a delightful surprise that I hope will encourage more prominent women to openly address issues typically deemed embarrassing or taboo. We may be officially approaching the era of beauty transparency.
