Following a decade of styling '80s-inspired mullets and bowl cuts for Stranger Things, Sarah Hindsgaul has unveiled her own hair care line: Hindsgaul Hair. In contrast to the extravagant hairstyles Hindsgaul created for the popular Netflix series, the philosophy for her next business prioritises the notion of effortlessly weightless hair.

The designer's exploration of vintage hairstyles enhanced her understanding of texture and movement, while her experience on Stranger Things inspired her to innovate within the hair business. Consequently, Hindsgaul Hair was established. The brand, inspired by Hindsgaul’s Nordic heritage and her preference for functionality over superfluity, aims to simplify daily routines to establish an ideal basis for versatile styles.

We converse with Sarah Hindsgaul regarding the inception of Hindsgaul Hair and the brand's understated references to Stranger Things.

The Motivation behind Hindsgaul Hair

The motivation stemmed from the concept of establishing a pristine foundation—hair that exudes health, flexibility, and freedom, allowing for the construction of any desired appearance or ambiance upon it. I sought goods that facilitate movement rather than restrict it. Products that are imperceptible in your hair, do not add weight, yet maintain strength, softness, and vitality throughout the day without becoming burdensome.

Regarding the Target Audience of the Brand

Hindsgaul Hair is designed for anyone seeking effortless hair management. The items are engineered to facilitate movement, lightness, and volume, thereby simplifying the creation of looks that exude confidence, relaxation, and style.

The Impact of Her Involvement in Stranger Things

Over the previous decade of working on Stranger Things, I have prioritised the hair and scalp health of the same actors, ensuring their well-being both on and off screen. Prolonged 16-hour filming days have elucidated the reality of hair dynamics: it is styled in the morning and must endure until day’s conclusion. I aimed to apply the knowledge acquired on set to practical, everyday haircare. Primarily, my experience in film reaffirmed my conviction that hair possesses its greatest beauty while in motion. Hair need to possess a sense of liberation.

Regarding the Brand's Allusions to Stranger Things

To achieve exemplary '80s hair, one requires volume, texture, and optimal length. My experience on Stranger Things instilled in me a profound respect for texture and for hair that appears vibrant; nevertheless, with Hindsgaul Hair, I was not focused on emulating a particular era. I aimed to modernise the philosophy of mobility, flexibility, and freedom.

The brand predominantly embodies a Scandinavian aesthetic. I hail from Copenhagen and desired the design to exude simplicity, cleanliness, and warmth. The yellow exuded optimism and positivity—smooth and gentle rather than garish. The typewriter font utilised in film scripts subtly alludes to Stranger Things, which resonates personally as my husband is a writer for the series.

If you like volume, texture, and hair that exhibits natural movement without the sensation of product, then Hindsgaul Hair is ideal for you. The objective is to achieve hair that appears effortless, akin to its portrayal on-screen.
