The bar scene in Melbourne, particularly in Collingwood, has become somewhat more eccentric with the introduction of Slowpoke Lounge & Lookout.

This unconventional rooftop venue, which recently debuted, is situated atop Zero Gipps on Gipps Street.

Co-founders Bradley Wynne, Gabe Neri, and Dustin Hefford have leveraged their collective expertise in event production, brand development, and immersive experiences to create a venue that is simultaneously familiar and surprising. The rooftop venue serves as a vintage yet chic sanctuary, inviting people to express their most eccentric selves. Influenced by Looney Tunes' Slowpoke Rodriguez, the bar's relaxed allure encourages patrons to decelerate, engage, and savor their experience.

The interior merges sleek mid-century modern aesthetics with the ruggedness of Brutalism and the opulence of 1970s Italian design. The space resembles entering a friend's unconventional yet effortlessly stylish home room. While Melbourne's wine bars often adhere to a conventional selection of crudo and focaccia, Slowpoke's menu diverges significantly. Conceived by Slowpoke co-founder and executive chef Wynne, the cuisine emphasizes comfort, nostalgia, and a touch of playfulness.

The Kingfish crudo? Replaced with hash brown fries, a golden, savory combination of churro and pancake, served with Slowpoke’s proprietary sauce. Focaccia is set aside for The Slowpoke Cheeseburger, an opulent, deliberate interpretation of the McDonald's classic, redefined with meticulous technique and premium ingredients. Finally, there is traditional apple pie, presented warm with your selection of cream or ice cream.

The cocktail menu, curated by Melbourne hospitality expert Harry Costello (formerly of Bar Romantica), offers both popular selections and innovative house variations. There is a smooth Hazelnut Espresso Martini, a Coconut Margarita, and a notable Picante, harmonized with house-infused honey for a nuanced blend of sweetness and spice. The house-brewed Iced Tea and Spiced Lemonade are ideal for non-drinkers.

Slowpoke Lounge & Lookout operates from Thursday to Sunday. Visit their official website for additional information.
