Designed to make product research more intuitive, the AI-powered tool answers customer questions through natural, discussion-style voice responses.

The newly introduced “Join the chat” option is designed to conserve consumers' time by delivering essential product information without necessitating the perusal of extensive descriptions or reviews. The AI consolidates insights regarding product attributes, consumer input, and other pertinent information. For instance, consumers may enquire whether a coffee machine is appropriate for novices or if a garment is perceived as irritating according to customer feedback.
Instead of offering generic responses, Amazon asserts that the AI enhances prior answers to deliver more pertinent and useful information, while also ensuring no repetition occurs. This aims to replicate the experience of conversing with an informed employee at a retail establishment. Customers can pose enquiries and effectively direct the course of the conversation. The business states in a blog post, Each question posed shapes subsequent interactions, transforming the experience into a customisable conversation for customers.
“Join the chat” is a component of a larger initiative termed “Hear the highlights,” which provides concise audio summaries on millions of product pages in the Amazon Shopping app. The feature commenced testing in May and is presently accessible in the U.S. Nevertheless, only certain goods possess audio summaries. Customers can access the feature by opening a product page in the app and selecting the “Hear the highlights” button situated beneath the product image. From that point, users can either listen to a concise summary or select the “Join the chat” link to pose particular enquiries through text or voice. The audio may persist in playback while users navigate.
The new feature enhances Amazon's expanding array of AI-powered shopping options. These encompass Rufus, a generative AI assistant that aids customers in researching products and comparing alternatives; Interests, which persistently monitors and highlights new items that align with a shopper's preferences; and "Help me decide," which recommends products based on an individual's searches, browsing, and purchasing history.
