On Wednesday, the business announced the global availability of its customer assistance AI bot, now referred to as Meta Business Agent, within WhatsApp. The introduction follows nearly two years of Meta testing AI bots in WhatsApp Business for customer service in places such as India and Mexico.

Meta stated that the AI agent is capable of addressing client inquiries, suggesting items, scheduling appointments, qualifying sales leads, and redirecting queries to a human when necessary. The company is furthermore providing the bot within Instagram direct messages.

Meta announced it is evaluating a method for the Business Agent to deliver day summaries of overnight talks and offer insights. The business is evaluating this capability with specific accounts on WhatsApp Business, Instagram Pro, Messenger, and Meta Business Suite. The company stated it is endeavoring to incorporate functionalities such as doing market research, emphasizing product benefits, managing user calendars, and integrating tools to get competition insights. Meta announced its efforts to allow the Agent to display businesses while conducting searches or sharing contact information in conversation. It is developing a platform that enables larger organizations to construct bespoke agents capable of interfacing with systems such as Shopify, Zendesk, and Shopee.

Meta intends to impose fees on businesses for utilizing this AI agent by incorporating it into select tiers of its WhatsApp Business Premium subscription. The company indicated that large enterprises will incur charges for the agent according to their token usage. This is essential for WhatsApp, which has depended on businesses compensating for messaging and click-to-WhatsApp advertisements.
