On Tuesday, the online retailer announced the introduction of its 30-minute delivery service, named “Amazon Now,” in numerous U.S. locations. This expedited delivery service enables users to select from "thousands" of products, according to Amazon, encompassing fresh groceries, household necessities, and other regionally pertinent items.

Upon its launch, Amazon Now will be extensively accessible in Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Philadelphia, and Seattle, with plans for expansion to Austin, Denver, Houston, Minneapolis, Orlando, Oklahoma City, and Phoenix. By the end of the year, Amazon anticipates extending the service to tens of millions of users in these and additional cities, as the deployment progresses throughout the U.S. Eligible items will be marked with "30-minute delivery" banners on the Amazon app and website. Amazon Now promotions will be presented to customers during their shopping experience.

In December, Amazon initiated pilot tests for 30-minute deliveries in Seattle and Philadelphia, positioning itself in competition with other rapid delivery firms such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Instacart. The service competes on both speed and pricing. Although Amazon Now delivery include a fee, Prime members benefit from a reduced charge of $3.99 each order, in contrast to the $13.99 rate for non-Prime members. A supplementary small order cost of $1.99 applies to Prime members, while non-members incur a fee of $3.99, for orders under $15.00. This fee system is more transparent than that of competitors and frequently results in lower costs for Prime members, in contrast to competitors that impose changeable delivery fees, service fees, anticipated shopper gratuities, and occasionally price markups per item.

To facilitate rapid order processing, Amazon utilizes a network of smaller fulfillment centers situated nearer to customers' residences and workplaces, in contrast to the company's larger warehouses. The delivery times might be expedited with a more restricted assortment of commodities and diminished journey distances. Upon debut, Amazon Now orders may encompass fresh produce, dairy products, eggs, baked goods, healthcare and personal care items, necessities for infants and pets, electronics, and alcoholic beverages, where legally permissible. The option will generally be accessible 24 hours a day. “Amazon Now is designed for instances when you require or desire the convenience of receiving your Amazon order within 30 minutes or less,” stated Udit Madan, Senior Vice President of Amazon Worldwide Operations, regarding the launch. “With a multitude of items available for expedited delivery, you can receive everything from dinner groceries to AirPods prior to a flight, as well as household necessities such as laundry detergent or toothpaste, delivered directly to your residence.”

The service complements Amazon's current rapid delivery alternatives, which include 1-hour and 3-hour deliveries for over 90,000 products as of March, as well as same-day delivery for millions of items. Amazon is conducting trials of under-60-minute drone deliveries through Prime Air in eight U.S. regions.

In 2025, Amazon Prime customers got more than 13 billion products through same-day or next-day delivery worldwide. The United States alone included 8 billion of those goods, reflecting a 30% increase year-over-year.
