Internal documents reveal that Meta is accelerating its hardware pipeline with an enterprise-focused "Wearables for Work" portfolio, integrating Muse Spark-driven AI pendants and supersensing glasses to secure market share in the premium spatial computing sector.

Meta is strategizing a significant hardware initiative focused on an AI-driven pendant. An internal memo reviewed by The Information reveals that Vice President of Wearables Alex Himel detailed a thorough strategy to enhance the company's hardware presence. The next device is a result of the recent acquisition of Limitless, a business recognized for developing wearable recorders that provide searchable transcripts of everyday conversations. Limitless CEO Dan Siroker affirmed the acquisition, highlighting the congruence with a mutual ambition for human superintelligence. This action indicates a deliberate initiative to create a novel category of AI-enhanced wearables that effortlessly assimilate into daily life.
Internal testing for the pendant, known as dogfooding, is set to commence in early 2027. In addition to the pendant, the leaked memorandum outlines intentions for a substantial extension of the smart eyewear collection. Recent enhancements will feature supersensing models intended to maintain the functionality of cameras and sensors for prolonged durations. This continuous environmental monitoring enables the artificial intelligence to recall misplaced objects or propose daily activities. The brand presently collaborates with EssilorLuxottica for Ray-Ban and Oakley frames; however, the strategic plan indicates the incorporation of more eyewear brands to expand its audience and enhance gross margins.
Meta is launching a specialized enterprise service named Wearables for Work to bolster the hardware ecosystem. This subscription model is aimed at business clients prepared to pay a premium for specialized industry features. The software initiative seeks to alleviate substantial multi-billion dollar losses inside Reality Labs, the comprehensive hardware and metaverse company. Himel established an internal objective of achieving 10 million wearable devices sold in the latter half of 2026, in conjunction with a target of 6.8 million monthly active users by year-end.
The forthcoming devices will operate on Muse Spark, the latest artificial intelligence model from the technology conglomerate, in conjunction with an undisclosed agent referred to as Hatch. Despite prior specialized hardware initiatives from rivals encountering market opposition, Mark Zuckerberg and his team are wagering that integrating advanced agents into recognizable form factors would facilitate widespread adoption. The company seeks to achieve dominance in an increasingly competitive consumer electronics sector by integrating subscription software tiers with functional hardware.
