ByteDance, the company of TikTok, is entering the hardware market with its inaugural pair of earbuds. The earbuds, named Ola Friend, are being launched exclusively in China.

The primary attraction of the earbuds is their integration of the company's AI chatbot, which can operate independently of a smartphone. The earbuds, designed with an open ear structure, are intended to function as an audio assistant for users while traveling, practicing English, listening to music, or seeking companionship, as reported by the South China Morning Post.

To activate the earbuds, a user merely needs to utter “Doubao Doubao,” a term derived from ByteDance’s generative AI model, according to SCMP. The Ola Friend buds are priced at ¥1,199 CNY ($170 USD) and will be launched exclusively in China on October 17.
