Blending precision engineering with centuries-old craftsmanship, each piece is meticulously hand-finished by artisan Ryuji Umeda of Yamakyu Shitsuki.

The Casio S100X Japanese Lacquer Edition combines cutting-edge precision manufacturing with traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Manufactured only in Japan at the Yamagata Casio main facility, this premier calculator elevates a commonplace desktop instrument into a crafted artefact. Casio engaged Yamakyu Shitsuki, a venerable Echizen lacquerware manufacturer established in 1930 in Sabae, Fukui, to achieve the intricate finish. The ancient “Tamenuri” lacquering method is expertly applied to the calculator’s milled aluminium alloy body by master artisan Ryuji Umeda. The month-long procedure employs pure, filtered raw sap, yielding a profound, lustrous black finish that discreetly displays a red gradient at the margins.

In addition to its impressive design, the specialised equipment is equipped with numerous high-quality technical specifications. It incorporates a slender isolation key design employing a pantograph mechanism, guaranteeing reliable and pleasant input with a three-key rollover for swift typing. The display features a high-contrast FSTN LCD with a dual-sided anti-reflective coating to reduce glare. The screen’s text colour emulates the sophisticated navy blue shade of fountain pen ink for enhanced elegance. Upon completion of the enhanced design, each unit is assigned a laser-engraved serial number and is delivered in a bespoke black presentation box adorned with gold foil stamping. The Casio S100X Japanese Lacquer Edition is currently available on the Casio website.
