On Monday, Discord introduced Nitro Rewards, providing Nitro subscribers with complimentary access to discounts from various gaming and lifestyle firms. Nitro now provides enhancements to Discord, including increased profile customization possibilities, HD streaming, and the capacity to upload files up to 500 MB. The subscription is discretionary, as the platform can be utilized without payment, reflecting a deliberate design decision by Discord. However, this also implies that user acquisition may be challenging. Nitro has consistently focused on enhancing the Discord experience in a significant manner without imposing substantial limitations on free users, stated Stanislav Vishnevskiy, co-founder and CTO of Discord, in an interview with TechCrunch. Nitro Rewards is accessible to Nitro customers ($9.99 per month) but not to users on the Nitro Basic plan ($2.99 per month). The allure of Nitro Rewards may enhance value for members, hence promoting retention.

Upon debut, Nitro Rewards will grant access to the foundational tier of Xbox Game Pass, enabling gameplay of over 50 PC and Xbox titles, including Fallout 4, Stardew Valley, and DayZ. This tier also encompasses 10 hours of cloud gaming, enabling the streaming of games from a PC or Xbox to other devices. Nitro Rewards offers discounts ranging from 15% to 30% on a rotating assortment of gaming peripherals from Logitech G, SteelSeries, and KontrolFreek. Discord intends to collaborate with additional companies for analogous offerings in the future.

Nitro is the primary contributor to Discord's revenue, experiencing robust year-on-year growth, stated Vishnevskiy. This pertains to intensifying our commitment and delivering additional value to you once more. We sincerely extend our gratitude to [subscribers] for their support. From a business standpoint, it also enhances subscriber retention, since individuals perceive greater value in it.

Originally designed as a communication platform for gamers, Discord has since evolved into a significant entity in online culture, functioning as a community nexus for diverse users — ranging from cryptocurrency enthusiasts developing decentralized projects to social patrons arranging local craft events, as well as activists orchestrating political demonstrations. Discord plays a significant role in the technology world, with creators use the site to assemble beta testers or power users of their products and engage with them more directly. The platform has expanded to exceed 90 million daily active users.

This heightened exposure necessitates that Discord address the same intricate online safety challenges as other prominent services. The corporation is presently preparing to implement age-verification protocols in response to increasing lawsuits regarding children's online safety. Discord initially informed TechCrunch that Nitro Rewards is accessible to all Nitro subscribers; however, Nitro Rewards is not available to the Nitro Basic tier.
