Google TV's Freeplay channels have served as the quintessential alternative to cable since I discontinued my subscription. It has numerous channels featuring thousands of hours of programming, ensuring that with these complimentary channels, you will perpetually have new shows to view.
BBC Earth
If you share my passion for nature programs, I highly recommend BBC Earth. This is the premier venue to expand your knowledge through programs such as Planet Earth or to listen to Sir David Attenborough elucidate specifics about a particular species.
My preferred element of BBC Earth is its provision of information regarding global warming and the initiatives undertaken to mitigate and ultimately reverse it.
MovieSphere

Since I permanently discontinued cable service, I have missed the ability to access a movie channel for relaxation. Liongate's MovieSphere channel has been my preferred choice for addressing that need, and since it is complimentary, I am not incurring an additional subscription expense.
MovieSphere offers an extensive selection of films across all genres. It encompasses not only low-budget films but also blockbusters. There is a continuous stream of films, ensuring there is always something available to view.
Ion
Crime dramas constitute my indulgent pastime. Blue Bloods, Bones, FBI, Criminal Minds, Chicago P.D., NCIS, Law & Order: SVU, among others. Fortunately, Ion has those programs readily available. The episodes are just weakly interconnected, allowing me to engage at any moment and enjoy myself.
My sole complaint regarding Ion is that its collection of series is restricted and does not encompass every season. While there are other options, it would be preferable to revisit the original Law & Order rather than solely focusing on SVU. Nonetheless, it is complimentary, so I cannot express significant dissatisfaction.
Doctor Who Classic

The Doctor Who library on Google TV is extensive, featuring 26 seasons available for your viewing pleasure. It serves not only as an ideal means to reengage with the series but also to explore the reasons behind its fervent fanbase. I have not previously viewed an episode of Doctor Who till now.
It is important to mention that Doctor Who Classic concludes with the Seventh Doctor; therefore, do not anticipate appearances by Matt Smith, David Tennant, Christopher Eccleston, or Jodie Whittaker. You can watch the latest Doctor on Disney+.
iHeart90s

I acknowledge my partiality regarding iHeart90s. A significant portion of the music I enjoy originates from that decade, hence I was naturally drawn to it, particularly in the realms of grunge and punk. Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Green Day, Soundgarden, and Rage Against the Machine are also excellent choices.
iHeart90s features podcasts, such as History of the 90s, which I enjoy playing in the background while completing household tasks. If 90s music does not appeal to you, iHeart offers alternative Freeplay channels on Google TV, such as iHeartCountry and Stingray Classic Rock.
The Price is Right: The Barker Era

I cannot conceive of anyone more suitable to host The Price is Right than Drew Carey, following the passing of Bob Barker. However, it is Bob Barker! If I intend to catch up on The Price is Right, I prefer Drew Carey; but, for the most fun episodes, I choose for Bob Barker.
The Price is Right: The Barker Era is precisely as it appears. The broadcasts feature episodes from the era when Bob Barker was the captivating host he once embodied.
Hallmark Movies & More

My heart is not impervious; I enjoy sentimental romantic comedies and uplifting films, as does my boyfriend. Hallmark excels at producing both. My girlfriend and I frequently choose Hallmark or Lifetime to disengage our minds. It is also an excellent venue to explore captivating drama without engaging real individuals.
FilmRise

Similar to MovieSphere, FilmRise offers both films and television series. On Google TV, FilmRise is divided into several Freeplay channels, each dedicated to a specific genre, such as FilmRise: Free Movies, Forensic Files, Unsolved Mysteries, and World's Most Evil Killers. Notably, there exists a FilmRise: Hot Ones, which showcases celebrities consuming spicy chicken wings while responding to inquiries.
America's Test Kitchen
I am passionate about writing, video games, and cooking, the latter of which has developed into a fervor over the past several years. I possess cookbooks, periodicals, and generational recipes, together with America's Test Kitchen, which I utilize to enhance my culinary skills. Additionally, I utilize user-friendly meal planning websites to prevent feeling overwhelmed.
What distinguishes America's Test Kitchen is that, in addition to acquiring new abilities, the hosts and guests elucidate the rationale behind the compatibility of various elements. Prior to my experience with America's Test Kitchen, I was unaware that the texture of the greens in my salad could influence the dressing.
Xumo Free Kids TV

Having two children necessitates that I maintain at least one children's channel readily available for their entertainment when desired. Xumo Free Kids TV features several exceptional programs that I like watching independently of my children. Yu-Gi-Oh! is available on Xumo, along with Science Max, Barney and Friends, and Pee-wee's Playhouse. Xumo offers Dino Ranch Nursery Rhymes, Little Baby Bum, and the endearing Dr. Panda for toddlers.
I am confident that I have overlooked several valuable channels among the numerous Freeplay options on Google TV, but I will discover them in due course. These ten channels alone fulfill the void left by cable. If Google continues this trend, I may never need to concern myself with cable again.
