TikTok is not departing imminently. Sensor Tower Data indicates that in the five days following its re-entry into US app stores, downloads had more than doubled. Rival applications such as the Chinese-based Xiaohongshu, also referred to as Rednote, experienced temporary increases during TikTok's absence but are currently facing a 91% reduction in new downloads.

TikTok was expunged from all US app stores for almost a month after a temporary shutdown for US users on January 19 due to the federal prohibition. Numerous users removed the app during the sub-12 hour restriction and were unable to redownload it once it was reinstated.

Appfigures reports that ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, incurred a loss of around $142 million USD in American consumer spending during its month-long absence from the app market. At now, gross consumer expenditure on the app in the United States is over $4.7 million USD daily.

The specifics of TikTok's forthcoming strategy remain ambiguous. President Trump has issued an executive order granting the company a 75-day extension to secure a US-based buyer or confront a federal ban. Throughout the ban's finalization, ByteDance dismissed all proposals for a sale; yet, this has not deterred corporations and entrepreneurs from expressing interest. Numerous contestants, including content producer Mr. Beast, former U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, and Perplexity AI, have emerged in the competition to "save" the app. Wyoming entrepreneur Reid Rasner has just launched a $50 billion USD bid for the acquisition of TikTok.
