BLACKPINK's Jennie has officially commenced the next phase of her career by signing a solo contract with Columbia Records in collaboration with her own record label and entertainment firm, Oddatelier. She is anticipated to unveil her new solo song by October.
Originating from Korea, the K-pop artist affiliated with the entertainment conglomerate YG and established BLACKPINK in 2016. The girl band has rapidly ascended to global prominence, becoming the first music group and Korean female performer to achieve five music videos with one billion views apiece on YouTube. They are presently the most-followed female group on Spotify. As one of four members, BLACKPINK is the highest-charting female Korean act on the Billboard charts and the sole South Korean artist to headline Coachella.
The artist has pursued her acting career, lately featuring in the contentious HBO series The Idol opposite Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd. She collaborated with the two actors on the single "One of the Girls." Last year, she discussed her acting pursuits with Dua Lipa on a podcast, asserting, “Acting was certainly one of the endeavours I wished to explore, but when I commit to something, I recognise the necessity of executing it properly.” Jennie stated, “And first of all, I wanted the new acting part of my life to be authentic, rather than just me trying to grab any opportunities that came to me – I really was being patient with with my first ever acting job. Which means when I was spending some time in LA last year, I actually got to meet Sam in person and I got to talk to him. And he talked me through the role that he wanted envisioned for me and everything – it really moved my heart.”
