Maison Margiela Introduces Tabi Collector’s Series Featuring 'Broken Mirror' Edition

Maison Margiela introduced the Tabi Collector’s Series with the highly exclusive Broken Mirror Embroidery edition, comprising just 25 pairs, highlighting the Tabi's distinctive design under the direction of Creative Director Glenn Martens.

The split-toe Tabi style of Maison Margiela has become emblematic of the brand, currently led by Belgian designer Glenn Martens. The previous Y/Project leader possesses an affinity for the strange, and his most recent endeavor for the avant-garde maison exemplifies this trait.

Today, Maison Margiela unveiled the inaugural edition of a yearly homage to style: The Tabi Collector’s Series. The Tabi, limited to 25 pairs, features an archival Broken Mirror Embroidery that adorns the whole upper. The beloved shoe is reinterpreted through Margiela's enduring exploration of metallic reflection and avant-garde craftsmanship.

The 'Broken Mirror' technique, initially featured in the AW15 Artisanal collection, has been adapted into the three-dimensional structure of the Tabi. Marten's predecessor, John Galliano, created a collection that featured embellishments on several clothing, such as a dress and an overcoat.

Every one of the 25 Collector’s pairs is meticulously hand-embroidered and embellished with more than 8,000 individually designed glass beads, sequins, and laser-cut metallic elements. The design meticulously embodies the spirit of organically aged glass, showcasing distinctive depth. The brand indicated that the distinctive design of the new Tabi necessitates the expertise of 11 specialized craftspeople.

To further commemorate this workmanship, the house will produce a film with Italian Director Yuri Ancarani, chronicling the evolution of the Tabi from conception to its final creative manifestation.

The Tabi Broken Mirror Embroidery will be showcased in select stores commencing October 30, 2025.
