The independent unit boasts an 8-core processor, 8GB of RAM, a 16-step sequencer, and integrated microphones and speakers for portable, professional-quality, computer-free production.

Akai has launched its "most powerful and advanced" MPC to date, the MPC Live III, including enhanced processing, extended performance features, and a restructured workflow geared for beatmakers, producers, and performers seeking complete creative autonomy—achievable entirely on the device without a computer.
Initiated in 1988 with the original Akai MPC, a pivotal instrument in modern music and foundational to early hip-hop and electronica, it has transformed into a self-sufficient production powerhouse that preserves the MPC's essence while modernizing it for today's producers. The MPC Live III is powered by an 8-core processor and 8GB of RAM, facilitating up to 32 plug-in instances, 16 audio tracks, and desktop-quality functionalities such as Pro Stems Separation and Super Timestretch, all operating on the enhanced MPC3 OS 3.6 software. The new device also includes a rechargeable battery, inbuilt stereo monitors, and an onboard microphone for voices, samples, and field recording.

Performance has consistently been a primary emphasis for Akai, and the MPC Live III introduces MPCe pads, with 3D-sensing that monitors X/Y position for real-time modulation, multi-layer control, and enhanced note articulation. A separate 16-step sequencer is included in an MPC, providing creators immediate access to electronic-style sequencing, while a new Clip Matrix facilitates live loop triggering and arranging without interrupting playback. A performance touchstrip is positioned adjacent to the pads for controlling effects, pitch, and modulation.
Connectivity and input/output capabilities have been enhanced. The unit features a 7-inch touchscreen, XLR/TRS combination inputs, six line outputs, advanced MIDI and CV capabilities, and USB-C for 24-channel audio transmission and 32-channel bi-directional MIDI. The wireless possibilities comprise Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, while direct smart device sampling completes the characteristics of the new independent configuration.
The MPC Live III offers the MPC3 Pro Pack, an enhancement that incorporates premium effects, sophisticated CV tools, Clip Launch improvements, follow actions, Ableton Live set import, and supplementary mixing utilities for customers seeking further functionality. The package includes the MPC Live III, but is also sold separately for other compatible devices.
The MPC Live III is currently available via Akai Professional shops globally, with a price of £1,399 GBP / €1,649 EUR / $1,699 USD.
