Apple is reportedly working on a cheaper Mac laptop with an iPhone chip

It will include a reduced screen size, yet may be priced far below $1,000.

Apple is developing an economical Mac notebook utilizing an iPhone chip, which is scheduled for release in the first half of 2026, as reported by Bloomberg. The laptop will feature a lower-end LCD display with a screen size marginally smaller than the 13.6-inch display of the current MacBook Air. According to Bloomberg, the laptop will be priced far below $1,000, and its cost will be comparable to the about $600 price of an entry-level iPad with a Magic Keyboard Folio.

To date, laptops using Apple Silicon have utilized M-series chips. Apple's assessments indicate that the iPhone chip "can outperform the Mac-optimized M1 utilized in laptops from just a few years prior," according to Bloomberg. The new laptop will feature a completely novel design and will target casual users, schools, and enterprises.

Earlier this year, supply chain expert Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that Apple was creating a more economical MacBook featuring an A-series CPU. Kuo stated that the laptop would utilize the A18 Pro technology from the iPhone 16 Pro series and would be available in many hues, including silver, blue, pink, and yellow.

According to Bloomberg, the business has completed development of a MacBook Air equipped with its newly launched M5 chip, which is scheduled for delivery early next year. MacBook Pros featuring M5 Pro and M5 Max processors are under development.
