Apple is allegedly reconstructing its assistant as a Gemini-based chatbot integrated into iOS, iPadOS, and macOS for enhanced application control.

Within the ecosystem, Campos is defined as a comprehensive overhaul of Siri rather than a superficial update. Reports indicate that the assistant will retain the familiar "Siri" wake word and side-button activation, while replacing the outdated card-style user interface with a genuine conversational thread capable of retaining context, managing follow-up enquiries, and accommodating extended prompts across sessions. iOS 26.4 is expected to introduce a more advanced, Apple Intelligence-driven Siri, while iOS 27 is anticipated to enable Siri to function similarly to the AI chatbots that users already engage with.
The new Siri is characterised as a combination of ChatGPT and a system-level operator. It is anticipated to utilise Google’s Gemini models through a bespoke Apple Foundation Model layer, facilitating functions such as online search, summarisation, image production, file analysis, and coding assistance. Enhanced integrations with Photos, Mail, Messages, Music, and productivity applications will enable users to request specific images and edit them instantaneously, compose emails based on calendar events, or modify system settings through natural language. Meanwhile, Apple is considering the extent of long-term memory the chatbot should retain to reconcile personalisation with its commitment to privacy.
