Cultural legacy The British audio brand Bowers & Wilkins has maintained a longstanding affiliation with the automotive sector and has just announced an extension of its association with McLaren, a collaboration that has existed since 2015 and now encompasses the McLaren Formula 1 Team.
The recent outcome of this partnership is the Pi8 McLaren Edition earbuds, featuring Bowers & Wilkins’ acclaimed flagship design, now presented in McLaren’s distinctive Galvanic Grey and Papaya Orange hues. The launch of the Pi8 McLaren Edition signifies ten years of partnership between the brands, and the earbuds join a joint portfolio of McLaren-inspired goods, which includes the Px8 McLaren Edition and Zeppelin McLaren Edition.
The Pi8 earbuds, with two 12mm Carbon Cone drivers that minimize distortion, provide a pristine and intricately detailed audio experience, representing the pinnacle of Bowers & Wilkins' offerings. The firm characterizes the Pi8's audio as "Reference True Wireless," implying its ability to deliver reference-quality sound wirelessly and asserting that the earbuds can "capture nuances in your music that other headphone drivers overlook." Each earbud is equipped with a discrete digital signal processor (DSP), amplifier, and digital-to-analog converter (DAC), enabling users to experience 24-bit audio playback and utilize a five-band configurable equalization through the accompanying application.

The Pi8 McLaren Edition features Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity with support for various codecs. This encompasses aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive, aptX Classic, AAC, and SBC, allowing users to wirelessly stream exceptionally high-quality music files.
Each earbud weighs about 7 grams and is equipped with three microphones and a battery that offers 6.5 hours of listening with noise-cancelling activated, and even longer without it. The charging case has a mass of 46g and provides an extra 13.5 hours of battery life. The Pi8 possesses a water-resistance rating of IP54.
The Pi8 McLaren Edition earbuds are now available for £449 GBP, €499 EUR, or $499 USD.
