McLaren choose Bowers & Wilkins as its Official Audio Partner for both McLaren Automotive and the McLaren Formula 1 Team for a specific purpose. For more than ten years – from the 2015 McLaren 540C to the latest McLaren W1 supercar – the UK-based audio imprint's technical team has collaborated with the automotive empire to enhance each vehicle's audio system using the most cutting-edge speaker technologies.

Since 2015, Bowers & Wilkins and McLaren have collaborated to integrate high-end audio with the automobile sector, leveraging their mutual commitment to technical perfection and performance excellence. The dedicated partners have collaborated on three jointly designed headphones, the latest being an updated version of the acclaimed Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2 wireless headphones, released in conjunction with the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The "Px8 S2 McLaren Edition," a new over-ear headphone model, was developed in partnership with McLaren Automotive and the McLaren Formula 1 Team, featuring drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in the promotional pictures.

“Both brands are rooted in performance, making this partnership feel inherently natural,” stated Giles Pocock, VP of Brand Marketing for Bowers & Wilkins, to Nicolas Brown, McLaren’s President of The Americas, during Tuesday night’s exclusive launch event at The Wynn’s McLaren store. Norris attended the launch event for a brief Q&A, emphasizing the significance of "consistency," thereby exemplifying the ideal ambassador for the lasting Bowers & Wilkins x McLaren collaboration.

The McLaren edition, derived from the Px8 S2, adopts a more streamlined design and incorporates Bowers & Wilkins’ enhanced noise cancellation technology, featuring custom 40mm Carbon Cone drive units. These units are constructed with a completely revised chassis, voice coil, suspension, and magnet, meticulously angled to ensure both ears are equidistant from the driver surface, thereby enhancing spatial accuracy and stereo depth.

In quintessential McLaren style, the headphones feature the brand's distinctive Papaya coloring, enhanced by elegant Anthracite Grey and McLaren Speedmark accents. Diamond-cut bright edges adorn each elliptical logo plate, complemented by plush memory-foam cushioning and a headband finished in supple Nappa leather.

The new collaboration headphones, akin to the original Px8 S2 model, incorporate Qualcomm’s aptX Adaptive 24/96 wireless technology alongside Bowers’ aptX Lossless and Digital Signal Processing, ensuring superior 24-bit/96kHz sound quality.

The Px8 S2 McLaren Edition exemplifies the enduring partnership between Bowers & Wilkins and McLaren, both in competitive settings and beyond. The commemorative headphones exemplify the duo's seamless teamwork and genuine connection, elevating their performance-oriented philosophy to the pinnacle of achievement, resonating with John Bowers' foundational principles in contemporary racing.

In response to inquiries regarding the mutual prioritization of performance, Pocock identified Bowers' principles as the "driving force" for the enduring collaborative partnership. “John Bowers initiated the company not with the intention of generating profit, but with the aspiration of creating the world's finest loudspeakers,” he elucidated. “It is an unyielding quest for perfection.”

Brown concurred, asserting that the duo owes it to their clients and expanding following to "never rest on their laurels"—literally completing Pocock's statement before he could articulate it, which exemplifies the perfect synergy between the two innovative partners. “I appreciate a quote from John Bowers: ‘If you create a superior product, consumers will purchase it.’ The underlying philosophy of our collaboration is: how can we enhance our efforts? The duo fulfilled their promise with the Px8 S2 McLaren Edition. Acquire a set of headphones now, priced at $899 USD on the Bowers & Wilkins website.
