Elon Musk and xAI discreetly launched Grokipedia, an AI-generated encyclopedia that contests Wikipedia's cultural supremacy. The platform emerged as Grokipedia v0.1, including a basic search-oriented interface and hundreds of thousands of articles. It experienced a momentary malfunction before resuming operation.

Musk characterized the initiative as "a significant enhancement compared to Wikipedia." The launch was postponed to "conduct further efforts to eliminate the propaganda." The initial pages reflect the structure of Wikipedia, with certain sections indicating that the content is derived from it. Inline citations are restricted, and editing is controlled in this beta version. Coverage indicated a biased perspective on certain sensitive issues. The outcome of that discussion will determine if Grokipedia can assert a neutral, high-trust position on a large scale.

xAI integrates information into the X ecosystem strategically. Real-time signals from Grok and X posts may maintain current entries but also provide the potential of rapid errors. The stakes are both cultural and technical. The entity that determines the parameters of public knowledge influences the atmosphere of the internet.
