HONOR has unveiled the Magic V5, the newest iteration in its folding series. The device measures 8.8mm when folded and 4.1mm when open, making it one of the thinnest foldables ever produced—a category that has recently experienced a spike in popularity, driven by intense competition among firms like as HONOR, Samsung, and OnePlus. Recently, speculation over Apple's development of its own foldable device has intensified.

The Magic V5 is equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite CPU, offering up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. It includes a 6.43-inch external LTPO OLED display and a 7.95-inch folding interior display, both operating at 120Hz and achieving peak brightness levels of approximately 5,000 nits. The device contains a 5,820mAh silicon-carbon battery that supports 66W conventional and 50W wireless charging. The gadget possesses an IP58 and IP59 rating for water and dust resistance, distinguishing it as one of the few foldables with an official ingress protection classification.

The Magic V5 is equipped with a 6.43-inch external screen and a 7.95-inch internal display, which together offer a maximum brightness of 5,000 nits when unfolded. To enhance productivity, HONOR has incorporated Multi-Flex mode, enabling users to multitask with up to three applications concurrently — a capability that elevates the smartphone beyond mere telephony into the realm of tablets. Furthermore, both configurations – folded and unfolded – accommodate stylus input, so enhancing users' ability to take notes, doodle, and engage in similar activities.

The gadget operates on HONOR's MagicOS 9.0, a proprietary variant of Android that, at first glance, resembles iOS more than Android. Consequently, this is advantageous for individuals migrating from Apple's ecosystem to Google’s, as well as for people using both platforms; HONOR’s MagicOS is among the most streamlined and user-friendly Android operating systems available.

In 2025, akin to most intelligent devices, AI significantly influences the user experience of the Magic V5, which is seamlessly integrated with Google's advanced Gemini AI model and provides additional, bespoke AI-driven features such as HONOR Notes and various creative tools.

The back camera configuration has a 50MP primary sensor with optical image stabilization, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 64MP periscope telephoto camera providing 3× optical zoom. The front-facing cameras are located on both the outside and interior screens for video calls and selfies, irrespective of the device's folded or unfolded state.

James Li, CEO of HONOR, described the introduction as a "significant milestone" for the brand, marking its endeavor to "push the boundaries of innovation across smartphones, PCs, and tablets." He stated that through collaboration with pivotal partners such as Google and Qualcomm, HONOR has successfully integrated its advanced AI capabilities, sleek designs, and enduring performance to create new opportunities for productivity and creativity in the daily lives of users globally.

The HONOR Magic V5 is currently available, with prices commencing at £1,699 GBP / €1,999 EUR. The available color options are Ivory White, Black, Dawn Gold, and Reddish Brown. No updates are available at this time; however, remain attentive for potential future collaboration with Porsche Design.
