Insta360 has introduced its newest 360° action camera, the Insta360 X5, enhancing multiple features present in its flagship model's predecessor.

The new X5 features the largest sensor yet offered by Insta360 in a handheld consumer 360º camera, a 1/1.28-inch sensor that the company claims provides “a dramatic leap in image quality across all resolutions,” including 8K video at 30fps. The X5 incorporates a "lightning-fast" Triple AI Chip technology, complemented by additional AI innovations such as PureVideo, a novel mode designed for low-light photography, hence increasing the camera's versatility in various lighting conditions.

Insta360 characterizes its latest camera as “the most resilient 360° camera to date,” using lenses constructed from a novel type of “ultra-durable glass.” The business asserts that this new lens system establishes a “new standard” for action cameras, characterizing the X5 as possessing a “first-of-its-kind replaceable lens system” that distinguishes it from other 360º cameras on the market.

The new X5 features enhancements like as an integrated wind guard for superior audio quality in adverse situations, an extended battery life of up to three hours, and advancements in the camera's waterproof capabilities, now rated for depths of up to 49 feet.

Recent software modifications include the introduction of InstaFrame Mode, which "simultaneously captures an auto-framed, ready-to-share flat video and a full 360° video for subsequent refinement." Additionally, the Insta360 companion app has been revamped to feature "more intuitive editing tools" and now enables the X5 to connect to the brand's cloud service.

JK Liu, the founder of Insta360, asserts that the enhancements in the new X5 address the genuine challenges faced by creators, stating: “from interchangeable lenses to AI-enhanced low-light capabilities, we have developed our ideal camera—durable enough for adventure, proficient enough to generate high-quality footage, and intelligent enough to effortlessly capture remarkable moments.”

To commemorate the introduction, the brand hosted a pop-up event at Grand Central Terminal in New York City, attracting hundreds of enthusiasts eager to get the new camera.

The Insta360 X5 is currently available on the brand's website for £519.99 GBP / $549.99 USD.
