Meta has unveiled its Orion glasses, touted as "the most advanced augmented reality (AR) glasses ever created." The parent company of Facebook and Instagram intends to create a seamless connection between the virtual and physical realms with unparalleled holographic displays and an AI-driven virtual assistant with its new wearable device.

In recent years, Meta has concentrated its efforts on the advancement of XR (extended reality) technologies, such as the widely circulated Quest virtual reality headset. Instead of obstructing the physical realm, the company's new AR concept will overlay digital interfaces onto the environment using sophisticated lenses. Meta asserts that the specifications provide the "most extensive field of view in the smallest AR glasses form to date."

The Orion's tiny technology was developed via years of experimentation and ingenuity. Meta subsequently collaborated with eyewear company Ray-Ban to encapsulate the device within an elegant and wearable frame. As the market becomes increasingly conducive to immersive wearable technology, Meta and its rivals are competing to establish their presence with innovative devices, such as Apple's more substantial Vision Pro headset.

The company has indicated that assisting Meta AI elements will be essential to the user experience by providing 3D visualizations, object recognition capabilities, and conversational AI interactions familiar to customers through chatbots such as ChatGPT.

The Orion glasses remain in the prototype phase, hence clients will not receive the product for several more years. Meanwhile, Meta will refine the product utilizing comments and insights from its workers and select external organizations.
