A prominent documentary is now under development concerning Elon Musk. The Tesla Files, a work-in-progress, is set to be revealed at the CPH:DOX international documentary festival in Copenhagen. It is produced by the Beetz Brothers and directed by Andreas Pichler.

Variety reports that the documentary draws narrative elements from "100GB of leaked internal data supplied by whistleblower Lukasz Krupski, a former Tesla employee in Norway, to the German business publication Handelsblatt." In 2022, Krupski was terminated by Tesla after asserting that the technology underlying its self-driving vehicles is unsafe and should be prohibited on public highways. In 2023, The New York Times interviewed Krupski, who disclosed that he faced harassment, threats, and ultimately termination after raising concerns regarding significant safety issues at his workplace near Oslo. Mr. Krupski, a Polish native, was involved in a team responsible for preparing Teslas for customers, but his dissatisfaction with the company led him to provide extensive data from the carmaker's computer system to Handelsblatt, a German business publication, last year. Included in the data he provided was a roster of Tesla employees, featuring Musk himself, along with their Social Security numbers and more personal information. The material encompassed internal Tesla discussions regarding thousands of accident reports.

The documentary aims to enable audiences to understand Musk's decisions. The synopsis aims to scrutinize both Tesla and Musk's political aspirations, stating that the documentary is produced to "understand Elon Musk today, we must examine The Elon Musk System — how he articulates ideas, implements them, and persistently advances technological solutions, frequently at the cost of truth and with tangible human repercussions." The documentary will feature testimonies from former Tesla employees and whistleblowers. Christian Beetz, CEO of Beetz Brothers, informed Variety, “Our objective was to transcend mere data and illustrate the human toll — the families impacted, the victims, and the attorneys striving for justice.” These narratives are distressing and universal. Documentary producer Anne Von Petersdorff stated, “Currently, Tesla is being investigated throughout Europe and by the U.S. Department of Justice.” The timing of Musk's political ascent prompts significant inquiries: was it a strategy to shield himself from accountability?

The initial narrative explores Musk's control over Tesla and his evolution from a technology entrepreneur to a political strategist. The second encompasses "victim narratives, which emphasize personal tragedies resulting from Tesla's autopilot, juxtaposing Musk's lofty technological aspirations with the genuine anguish of those affected." The third emphasizes inquiries conducted by journalists and attorneys regarding Musk, uncovering the company's internal operations and "exposing a pattern of concealment, regulatory circumvention, and an increasing intertwining of Musk's empire with political authority." The documentary is supposedly fifty percent complete in production.
