OnePlus Introduces the OnePlus 15, Its Most Ambitious Flagship Smartphone to Date

The new smartphone is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 CPU and boasts a 165Hz display optimized for gaming.

OnePlus has launched its latest flagship device, the OnePlus 15, which it describes as a “two-generation upgrade” including significant enhancements in performance, artificial intelligence capabilities, and durability, making it the brand’s most technologically sophisticated smartphone to date.

The OnePlus 15 has a novel triple-chip architecture designed to enhance speed and responsiveness, driven by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. This is facilitated by a specialized touch-response chip with a 3200Hz instantaneous sampling rate and an autonomous Wi-Fi chip that enhances connectivity in congested settings. A reengineered 360 Cryo-Velocity system manages cooling with aerogel insulation and white graphite, ensuring temperature stability throughout prolonged gaming sessions or intensive workloads.

The display undergoes a substantial enhancement. The OnePlus 15 introduces an industry-leading 1.5K 165Hz LTPO display, merging retina-quality clarity with exceptionally fluid motion. The outdoor usability is enhanced with a high brightness option of 1800 nits, while the screen can reduce to 1 nit for low-light viewing. The TÜV Rheinland Intelligent Eye Care 5.0 certification further the improvements by incorporating adaptive comfort settings for extended usage. Gamers receive a UAV-grade gyroscope with ±4000 DPS precision, enhancing aim stability and motion control accuracy.

The smartphone is powered by a substantial 7300mAh Silicon NanoStack Battery designed for durability. OnePlus asserts that it maintains over 80% health after four years and functions reliably at temperatures as low as -20°C/4ºF. Charging is a defining feature of the brand, with 120W SUPERVOOC achieving a complete charge in around 39 minutes and 50W AIRVOOC for wireless charging.

The OnePlus 15 features a new DetailMax Engine alongside a triple 50MP camera configuration. The system features a 50MP optical image stabilization primary sensor, a 50MP autofocus ultra-wide sensor suitable for both scenic and macro photography, and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens providing 3.5x optical and 7x lossless zoom capabilities. Computational enhancements introduce functionalities such as Ultra Clear 26MP mode, Clear Burst for capturing rapid motion, and Clear Night Engine for enhanced low-light visibility. OnePlus asserts that the device is the sole Android smartphone capable of 4K 120fps Dolby Vision recording, featuring LOG capture and real-time LUT previews. It is important to observe that OnePlus's collaboration with Hasselblad, seen in the OnePlus 13, is absent in the new device.

The new device operates on OxygenOS 16, OnePlus's proprietary version of Android, and unveils a collection of AI technologies branded as "Plus Mind." A specialized Plus Key enables users to store any on-screen content in a centralized Mind Space knowledge repository. The integration with Google Gemini enables the assistant to access Mind Space for tailored outcomes, like travel itineraries derived from user-saved notes, and supplementary AI capabilities such as AI Writer, AI Recorder (including voice detection), and AI Portrait Glow (for sophisticated photo retouching).

The OnePlus 15 showcases uniform 1.15mm bezels, a flat frame with rounded edges, and an equitable weight distribution. Finishes comprise “Infinite Black,” “Sand Storm,” and “Ultra Violet,” the latter employing a light-responsive dual-texture finish. Durability is enhanced with comprehensive IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K classifications, providing defense against dust, submersion, and high-pressure, high-temperature water jets.
