The move signals an effort to revive interest in the video-generation tool after falling engagement on its standalone platform.

OpenAI is preparing to incorporate their Sora video generating model directly into ChatGPT. The strategic shift seeks to revitalise user engagement with the tool by leveraging the chatbot's extensive audience and maintaining competitiveness with other AI content makers. The independent Sora application was initially released as a significant success in September 2025. Nonetheless, enthusiasm for the specialised program has diminished in recent months as users encountered frustrating limitations over the types and volumes of movies they could create. Notwithstanding the decline in interaction, OpenAI intends to maintain the standalone version functional even following the launch of the ChatGPT integration.
Integrating a resource-intensive video generator into ChatGPT may prove to be an expensive demonstration of capability for the AI conglomerate. Expanding access to a broader audience may result in a significant increase in computing costs. To mitigate the burn rate, the business may investigate monetisation options akin to the standalone app's credit system, potentially enabling premium services such as the creation of films with licensed Disney characters.
