Sony is departing from the understated matte aesthetic in favour of a more audacious design with the PlayStation Hyperpop Collection, a new series of DualSense controllers and PlayStation 5 console covers characterised by vibrant neons and glossy blacks. The line is offered in three distinct colourways: Techno Red, Remix Green, and Rhythm Blue, directly inspired by the luminous RGB environments prevalent in contemporary gaming configurations.

The design intricacies distinguish this drop from earlier colour variations. The PlayStation Colour, Material, and Finish team states that the controllers exhibit a smooth gradient encased in a high-gloss finish, contrasting with the original matte feel. The coordinating console covers reflect this energy, incorporating a nuanced element of transparency. Designers Leo Cardoso and Sae Kobayashi assert that the objective was to develop hardware that not only occupies a space but also “dominates” with the same intensity as bespoke lighting installations.

The Hyperpop DualSense controllers are available for $84.99 USD, whereas the limited-quantity console covers will be priced at $74.99 USD. Pre-orders commence on January 16 at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET through the PlayStation webstore and select retailers. The complete collection is officially set to be released on March 12.
