Following two years and multiple setbacks, Analogue's eagerly awaited Nintendo 64-inspired system, the Analogue 3D, has officially launched, with pre-orders being dispatched today and a registration page for new orders available on the company's website.

Similar to prior offerings from the Seattle-based firm, the Analogue 3D utilizes FPGA technology and a specialized chip to authentically replicate Nintendo’s original console using hardware rather than software emulation, delivering what Analogue describes as a “complete recreation” of the Nintendo 64 for contemporary use.

The Analogue 3D, constructed on the company's innovative 3DOS platform, operates original N64 cartridges from any region without requiring patches, modifications, or alternative solutions. The system is engineered to simplify the technical intricacies of the original hardware, instantly recognizing each game, including Expansion Pak compatibility, peripheral prerequisites, and region-specific functionalities. At the user level, it functions identically to an authentic N64 – merely plug and play – however devoid of the quirks or compatibility challenges that sometimes afflict aged consoles and antiquated technology overall.

The system can deliver output up to 4K60, supported by display controllers that emulate CRT, PVM, and BVM characteristics at the hardware level. Instead of depending on filters, it emulates the technology of vintage televisions, incorporating phosphor response, scanlines, and period-appropriate color profiles to deliver classic games with enhanced, precise visuals on contemporary displays. Users can modify original hardware features, such as disabling texture filtering or modifying memory behavior, to replicate or enhance particular visual characteristics.

Similar to its predecessor, the Analogue 3D preserves the N64's focus on local multiplayer by incorporating four controller ports on the front of the device. The brand collaborated with gaming peripherals firm 8BitDo to provide a novel controller for the system, which preserves the functionalities of the original Nintendo controller while featuring a contemporary and significantly more ergonomic design. The Analogue 3D offers communication through conventional Bluetooth, Bluetooth LE, and low-latency 2.4GHz wireless technology. Additional features encompass HDR compatibility, meticulous color calibration, unlocked RAM modes, and an extensive array of video controls—ranging from display settings to accessory recognition—all managed internally by the device, yielding the most seamless N64 experience available today.

Furthermore, Analogue is providing cartridge cleaners within the package to assist in the preservation of vintage games and accessories, so eliminating the have to blow dust from your cartridge (although we would not fault you if you chose to do so).

The Analogue 3D is region-free for games and features global power support from launch. Every order comprises an HDMI cable and an SD card within the packaging, in addition to a growing array of accessories being introduced by the business. If you have pre-ordered Analogue 3D, anticipate your item to be dispatched today. If you have not yet done so, you may register on the brand's website to get notifications regarding new stock releases.
