Frequent travelers recognize that an Apple AirTag is an ideal complement for checked luggage. It provides assurance that your bag will accompany you upon arrival. However, should it become misplaced, United Airlines is implementing interaction with a new iOS 18.2 feature to assist in locating lost baggage.
One of the subtle enhancements in iOS 18.2, which was formally released on Wednesday for the iPhone, is the Share Item Location feature for an AirTag. The name suggests that it enables rapid sharing of the AirTag's position for a specified duration determined by you.
It can be utilized to convey the location of an object to family or friends. However, it appears optimally configured to communicate the potential whereabouts of your misplaced luggage to an airline.
Merely one day following the release, United Airlines has become the inaugural big airline to include the capability into its mobile application.

If you travel with United and your luggage fails to arrive, you may utilize the airline's app to file a delayed baggage report. In the Find My app, you can generate a Share Item Location link and include it in the report.
Upon receipt of the report by United, the employee will obtain the link and access the location on an interactive map. It is hoped that this will expedite the recovery of your baggage.
United states that immediately upon receipt of a bag by the passenger, the shared location will be deactivated. The customer may terminate it at any moment.
Utilizing an AirTag while traveling facilitates constant monitoring of your bag's position. Due to the robust Find My Network, I have consistently been able to monitor my bag at the airport and even when it was put aboard the airplane.
Additional Features in iOS 18.2
The Share Item Location feature is among the new functionalities introduced in iOS 18.2. The update prominently featured several new Apple Intelligence functionalities for supported devices. Although the initial set of features was disappointing, I found the advancements in Apple Intelligence with the latest enhancements to be significantly more impressive.
