News on Qi2 wireless charging

In April 2025, the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) unveiled the newest iteration of the Qi2 standard, advancing wireless chargers towards the expedited charging speeds provided by USB connections.

Qi2.2 facilitates charging up to 25W, representing a significant enhancement above the 15W maximum rate established since the release of Qi1.2 in October 2015.

The updated Qi2.2 standard continues to utilize magnets to ensure precise alignment between devices and chargers for best charging efficiency. Initially launched with the iPhone 12 as MagSafe, Apple facilitated the integration of this feature into the Qi2 standard by effectively distributing the technology's design. It has subsequently become standard on iPhones, but an increasing number of Android smartphones, including those from Google, are incorporating compatibility for Qi2. The Pixel 10 series features a MagSafe-compatible variant named PixelSnap, while the Pixel 10 Pro XL accommodates the expedited Qi2.2 25W charging.

Ugreen was among the initial firms to launch a Qi2.2 wireless charging power bank; however, other accessory manufacturers, such as Aukey, Belkin, Anker, Kuxiu, and Nomad, have subsequently introduced their own Qi2.2-compatible wireless chargers.

Mophie’s latest wireless charging stands mostly accommodate Apple devices. All stands, priced between $45 and $100, can wirelessly charge a Qi2-compatible smartphone at a rate of 15W. However, three of them feature supplementary wireless chargers for the Apple Watch and AirPods (or both) and are accompanied by a 40W wall adapter.
