Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Unlocks AirDrop Integration for a Unified Experience

With native support for Apple’s sharing protocol, the new update delivers fluid file transfers across Android and iOS like never before.

Samsung has officially introduced Apple AirDrop compatibility to its Galaxy S26 Series, overcoming a significant barrier in technology. This innovative functionality is seamlessly integrated into the current Quick Share feature, fulfilling Google's long-time commitment to enhance AirDrop compatibility across the Android ecosystem since its introduction on Pixel 10 phones last year. The update is currently being deployed in South Korea and will shortly reach North America, Europe, Latin America, and other regions later this week, with intentions to include older Galaxy models in the near future.

To utilise this cross-platform file sharing, Galaxy S26 users must first verify that their Google Play Services are current, then manually activate the feature by navigating to the “Connected devices” menu, accessing Quick Share, and enabling the “Share with Apple devices” toggle. To ensure a seamless transfer of high-resolution images or large files to and from an iPhone, both Android and Apple users must adjust their AirDrop or Quick Share settings to "Everyone" throughout the transfer process. This significant development indicates a substantial transformation in mobile interoperability, completely eliminating one of the most vexatious friction points between iOS and Android users. By integrating the formerly proprietary file-sharing protocol straight into Quick Share, Samsung is facilitating seamless media transfer from an iPhone to a Galaxy S26, analogous to sharing between two Apple devices.
