Initially, the new MacBook Pro appears largely same — featuring the identical glossy black surface and the same sharp 14.2-inch display. However, during a day of collaboration with Men’s Folio’s Art Director, Danessa, the distinction became evident. Each tool exhibited enhanced responsiveness, and every modification appeared seamless. In juxtaposition with an antiquated Intel MacBook Pro, it felt like to leaping many years into the future – a future where technology subtly recedes, allowing ideas to assume prominence.

A 10-minute 4K video that previously required just over five minutes to render on the M4 now concludes in approximately four minutes. While not revolutionary in theory, in fact, it reduces waiting time by one minute and increases productive creation time by the same amount.
The M5 claims to deliver up to 20% enhanced CPU performance, 45% improved graphics, and a 3.5-fold increase in AI work efficiency. However, the figures convey only a portion of the narrative. The true significance lies in its daily implications: no more futile efforts, no more delays.
We observed it in operation with Danessa, the Art Director of Men’s Folio. On her antiquated Intel device, a 4K timeline featuring color grading, noise reduction, and several nested sequences was a frustrating ordeal – she would initiate the export, connect her charger, and proceed to obtain coffee. With the M5, it is immediate. Scrolling, cleaning, and applying filters — all exceptionally smooth. The accumulation of those few moments, repeatedly preserved, culminates in hours at the week's conclusion. She now allocates hours to design, not to delays.
However, the true advancement transcends mere velocity; it pertains to the enhanced intelligence of the M5. The GPU cores now feature integrated Neural Accelerators, specifically engineered for artificial intelligence tasks. This indicates that all AI-powered applications, ranging from localized language models to intelligent features in creative software, now operate with exceptional efficiency.
AI upscaling that previously required several minutes? Accomplished in few seconds. Intelligent masking that previously lagged behind your brush? It now appears nearly psychic. The CPU participates as well, utilizing its Neural Accelerators for rapid tasks like as voice recognition and background support.
The AI revolution is localized
This is the most exhilarating aspect for us. The M5's new Neural Accelerators integrated into each GPU core establish AI-powered tools as a basic feature rather than an ancillary benefit. The execution of AI noise reduction in Topaz Video, as well as advanced AI masking and object removal in Premiere or Resolve, is now conducted locally, achieving speeds up to 7.7 times quicker than on the M1.
This constitutes a significant enhancement. It transforms previously sluggish elements into integral components of her creative workflow. She can produce intricate graphic modifications in applications such as Draw Things within seconds. This type of creative iteration formerly necessitated a substantial, high-performance desktop computer.
Appropriate instruments: ports that fulfill their function
Following years of minimalist design, Apple appears to have heeded the feedback of its users. The new MacBook Pro reinstates all the ports that professionals have been lacking – and frankly, it is a welcome change.
The device features three Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) connectors for rapid data transfer and charging, in addition to the favored MagSafe 3 connector. The magnetic click is not merely nostalgic; it is functional. Should an individual stumble over the cord, it disengages without causing harm – a feature Danessa, our Art Director, wishes had been available when she lost a laptop due to a studio incident.
The SDXC card slot is efficient, dependable, and a subtle tribute to photographers and videographers seeking to import their work without the inconvenience of adapters. The HDMI port facilitates seamless connection to external monitors, accommodating 4K resolution at 240Hz or 8K at 60Hz, ideal for dual-monitor configurations required for creative tasks. The headphone jack receives an enhancement, modulating voltage to accommodate professional-grade headphones effortlessly.
Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 facilitate smooth connectivity for devices such as wireless drawing tablets, speakers, and smartphones. It is a configuration that appears deliberate rather than merely designed. For Danessa, that signifies one fewer adaptor, one fewer cable, and one fewer consideration.
The experience within actual workflows
In Adobe Lightroom, RAW imports that previously progressed slowly now occur in just seconds. Batch edits, proofs, and intricate filters are executed seamlessly, allowing her to concentrate on mood and tone rather than progress indicators.

This is not merely about speed; it embodies a sense of freedom.
Is an upgrade advisable?
For those utilizing an Intel MacBook Pro, this transition represents not merely an enhancement but a release from limitations. The distinction is stark: it is cooler, quieter, and remarkably faster. You will question how you tolerated the previous version.
For M3 or M4 users, the transition is less significant yet still substantial. Anticipate 15–20% enhancements in CPU and GPU performance, along with a substantial increase in AI capabilities. If your work is predominantly focused on AI-driven workflows, you will experience the impact instantly. If not, you may consider awaiting the M5 Pro or Max, as Apple is actively advancing towards that goal, although we cannot verify it at this moment.
